The Wayne State University women's diving team began its 2025-26 season by hosting the first Detroit Diving Classic at Matthaei Natatorium. The event took place on Saturday and featured three teams: Wayne State, Aquinas College from the NAIA, and Davenport University of the GLIAC.
A total of 18 divers participated in the competition, with 10 women and eight men competing across different events. Five athletes represented Wayne State on the women's side: Ariana Heugh, Isla Puzjak, Hannah Siebern, Alicia Viaches, and Zoe Wood.
Head diving coach Jason Trout commented on the team's performance: "The first-ever Detroit Diving Classic was a great way to open our season. Sophomore Alicia Viaches won the Women's 1-M Championship (11 Dives), followed by Ariana Heugh, Isla Puzjak, and Zoe Wood claiming second through fourth for a Warrior sweep of the top four. Isla also impressed with a strong second-place finish in the Women's 3-M Championship (11 Dives). Alicia and Ariana both earned their first of two required national cuts, which is an incredible start this early in the season. Overall, I am proud of how the team competed and cannot wait to see how we continue to progress throughout the year."
In individual results:
- In the Women's 1-M Championship (6 dives), Hannah Siebern placed second.
- In the Women's 1-M Championship (11 dives), Alicia Viaches took first place with a score of 393.35 points. Teammates Ariana Heugh, Isla Puzjak, and Zoe Wood finished second through fourth respectively.
- In the Women's 3-M Championship (11 dives), Isla Puzjak secured second place while Alicia Viaches and Zoe Wood finished third and fourth.
No Wayne State divers competed in the Women's 3-M Championship (6 dives).
Wayne State's next event will be its Alumni Meet on Friday, October 24 at Matthaei Natatorium. After that meet, they will travel to Marquette for a two-day competition against Northern Michigan scheduled for November 7 and 8.
