The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has released its annual Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll, with Wayne State University's women's basketball team projected to finish fifth in the conference for the upcoming season.
Last season, Wayne State posted a 20-12 record and reached the NCAA regional semifinal. In this year's poll, each of the 11 GLIAC head coaches ranked the other teams in the league. Grand Valley State received 10 first-place votes and led the poll with 100 points. Northern Michigan was selected second with 87 points, while Ferris State took third place with one first-place vote and a total of 84 points. Parkside was fourth with 72 points, just ahead of Wayne State's 66.
The remainder of the rankings included Michigan Tech (48), Saginaw Valley State (46), Roosevelt (43), Davenport (25), Lake Superior State (21), and Purdue Northwest (13).
The GLIAC will announce its Preseason Teams and Preseason Player of the Year on October 28.
Wayne State is scheduled to open its regular season on November 7 at Texas Woman's University during the DII CCA Tip-Off Classic hosted by TWU.
