Wayne State University's men's basketball team has been projected to finish seventh in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) for the upcoming season, according to the league's annual Preseason Coaches' Poll released on October 22.
The Warriors ended their 2024-25 campaign with a 15-14 record and made it to the GLIAC Tournament for the second consecutive year. This marks the first time since the 2017-18 season that Wayne State has achieved back-to-back tournament appearances.
The preseason poll is determined by the votes of the 11 head coaches in the conference, with each coach ranking the other 10 teams. Michigan Tech led the poll, receiving 10 first-place votes and a total of 100 points. Northern Michigan was selected second with 85 points and one first-place vote, while Parkside was picked third with 80 points. Grand Valley State, Lake Superior State, and Ferris State were ranked fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively. Wayne State received 51 points to secure the seventh spot in the poll. The remaining teams in the rankings are Saginaw Valley State, Purdue Northwest, Davenport, and Roosevelt.
The GLIAC office is scheduled to announce its Preseason Teams and Preseason Player of the Year on October 29.
Wayne State will open its regular season at home against Michigan-Dearborn on November 14 at 4 p.m. at the WSU Fieldhouse.
