Kyle Hill, Player | Wayne State Warriors Men's Baseball
Kyle Hill, a former standout pitcher for the Wayne State Warriors baseball team, has been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Hill played for the Warriors from 2004 to 2007, contributing to 105 overall wins and 68 victories in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play during his collegiate career.
In 2005, Hill was named to the First Team All-GLIAC and was selected for the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team. That same year, he helped lead Wayne State to a GLIAC regular-season title and its first NCAA tournament appearance.
Hill also earned All-GLIAC Second Team honors twice, in 2004 and 2007. He was recognized as Wayne State’s Top Pitcher in both 2004 and 2005, sharing the honor in 2007 with Anthony Bass.
At the time of his graduation, Hill’s 24 career wins matched the school record, a milestone that remained for 17 years. He led or tied for the team lead in wins during each of his first three seasons and finished his senior year with a 2.52 ERA, ranking third in the GLIAC.
In the Wayne State record books, Hill’s 13 starts in 2005 ranked tied-for-fifth for a single season, while his nine wins that year tied for third. His eight complete games as a senior also tied for fifth place. Upon graduation, he held the top two single-season strikeout-to-walk ratios in program history and still maintains the career record at 3.60, with 173 strikeouts to 48 walks.
Hill set the program record for career starts with 45, a mark that lasted for 17 years, and his 20 complete games remain tied for second most in school history. He finished second all-time at Wayne State with 271.1 innings pitched.
A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Hill achieved a complete-game no-hitter at Mercyhurst for his first collegiate win.
Off the field, Hill was recognized three times on the GLIAC All-Academic Team. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English in 2008 and completed a master’s degree in Teaching Secondary Education in 2010. Hill appeared on the Academic Honor Roll every semester during his undergraduate career, including five terms on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for maintaining a GPA above 3.5.
