Wayne State University’s baseball team suffered a defeat in their series finale against Saginaw Valley State on Sunday, ending with a score of 10-3 in favor of the Cardinals. The loss was partly due to defensive mistakes, as six of SVSU’s 10 runs were unearned.

The game began with Wayne State leading 1-0 until the fourth inning, when Saginaw Valley State scored three runs. They continued to score with two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, and three more in the eighth inning.

The Warriors’ initial run came from Drew Hill, who brought in Mason McGuire with an unassisted groundout. Two additional runs for WSU were scored in the sixth inning via a double from Caleb Sanders, which brought home Ty Garza and Noah Murciano.

WSU’s starting pitcher, TJ McAllister, was efficient in his three innings, not conceding any runs or hits, though he issued four walks and struck out two. Nick Baker, the first reliever, recorded his first loss this season after allowing three runs, two of which were earned, over three innings.

Ethan Getting, the next pitcher, allowed two earned runs on just one hit across his time on the mound. Keegan Pulford-Thorpe took the mound next, giving up three unearned runs while striking out two. Coy Plummer closed the pitching lineup for Wayne State by striking out the only batter he faced.

Wayne State now prepares for a series against No. 11 Grand Valley State, with games scheduled from Thursday to Saturday in Allendale.
