The Wayne State University baseball team is set to play a four-game series against Lewis University in Millington, Tennessee, from February 20 to 22. The games will take place at the USA Stadium Complex, with the first matchup scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, followed by a doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Saturday and the final game at noon on Sunday.
Wayne State enters the series with a 4-0 record, marking its best season start since 2019 when the team began with eight consecutive wins. The Warriors’ recent victories came against Tiffin University in Cincinnati, where they outscored their opponent by a combined score of 42-11 and recorded a team batting average of .331 over four games.
Drew Hill led Wayne State offensively last week, going 7-for-10 with six runs scored and four RBIs. Rhett Roeser also contributed significantly in his debut appearances, posting a .571 batting average and five RBIs. Five other players finished the series hitting above .300.
On the mound, Wayne State’s pitching staff has maintained a team ERA of 2.81 and held opponents to a .186 batting average. Gabe Nazelli, Will Lowery, and Nick Baker each pitched multiple innings without allowing any runs. Victories were credited to Lowery, Baker, Keegan Pulford-Thorpe, and Philip Miller.
Lewis University holds a 1-3 record so far this season. Their lone win was against Cedarville by a score of 4-2. Four Lewis players are currently hitting above .400 for the season: Chris Daugherty (.500), Jimmy Spellman (.467), Jackson Hunley (.417), and Kyle Peterson (.400). Tanner Johnson leads Lewis’ pitching staff with a 1.59 ERA after one start.
Historically, Wayne State has won four out of five meetings against Lewis.
The Wayne State Warriors Men’s Baseball program is based in Detroit, Michigan and competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) at the NCAA Division II level (official website).
