Four student-athletes from Wayne State University’s women’s basketball team have been honored with Academic All-District awards by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). This recognition highlights their academic and athletic achievements during the 2024-25 season. Wayne State is among four schools in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) to have four honorees, joining Ferris State, Grand Valley State, and Northern Michigan.

The honored athletes include seniors Alyssa Leister, Ally Shagena, Shea Tripp, and sophomore McKenna Ferguson. Leister, who will graduate with a degree in Management, has maintained a 3.85 GPA while contributing significantly on the court. “Leister scored 215 points, dished out 77 assists,” as part of her impressive performance statistics.

Shagena completed her studies in Finance last December with an outstanding 3.99 GPA. She achieved personal bests across various game metrics this past year and is set to receive multiple academic accolades for her efforts.

Tripp stands out not only for her first-team All-GLIAC honors but also as the only Warrior advancing to the Academic All-American ballot. Her performance includes leading the team in several categories such as scoring and minutes played. She is also a finalist for the prestigious John Wooden Citizenship Cup.

Ferguson received recognition in her first eligible year after participating in all games of the season and excelling in multiple statistical areas. “She led the team in three-point percentage,” showcasing her skill on the court.

The CSC’s Academic All-District program acknowledges top student-athletes combining excellence both academically and athletically across different divisions including NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA. Selected individuals advance to be considered for Academic All-America status with results announced mid-April 2025.
