Wayne State completes football coaching staff with key appointments

Wayne State University’s football team has finalized its offensive coaching staff for the upcoming season. Head coach Tyrone Wheatley announced the hiring of J.C McDonald as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, while Jimmy Hill will serve as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. Mustafa Khaleefah has been appointed as tight ends coach.

J.C McDonald joins Wayne State after serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Livingstone College in 2024, where he helped the team achieve a 6-4 record. He has an extensive coaching background that includes roles at Morgan State, Frostburg State University, West Virginia Wesleyan College, and various other institutions. McDonald began his collegiate playing career at Potomac State College before earning degrees from Glenville State College and West Virginia Wesleyan University.

Jimmy Hill brings experience from Davenport University, where he was a wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator for three seasons. His previous roles include coaching positions at Fleming Island High School in Florida and Atlantic Coast High School in Jacksonville. Hill’s playing career included notable achievements at Wayne State University, where he set records and earned accolades during his tenure.

Mustafa Khaleefah joined Wayne State’s coaching staff in August 2024 as a graduate assistant working with the offensive line. Now promoted to tight ends coach, Khaleefah has been recognized for guiding student-athletes to academic success. A Dearborn native, he graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Criminal Justice.

Wayne State will kick off its 2025 season on Thursday, September 4th against Tiffin.
