Wayne State fencers compete at February North American Cup

Multiple student-athletes from Wayne State University’s men’s and women’s fencing teams participated in the February North American Cup held at the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati.

Representing the men’s team were Connor Desautels, Gabriel Dumoulin, Mitchell Gatrell, Sam Gneuhs, and Finn McIsaac. In Division-1 Men’s Sabre, Dumoulin finished with a 4-3 record while Desautels went 1-5. For Division-1 Men’s Foil, Gatrell posted a 4-3 record with a +6 indicator in pool play. McIsaac ended at 1-5 and Gneuhs at 0-6. In Junior Men’s Sabre, Dumoulin achieved a 4-3 overall record with a +9 indicator in pools. McIsaac also competed in Junior Men’s Foil, finishing with a 4-4 record.

On the women’s side, Ludovica Mancini was the sole participant for Wayne State. She recorded a 2-5 result in Division-1 Women’s Foil.

The Wayne State Warriors Women’s Fencing program is based in Detroit, Michigan and competes as part of NCAA Division II within the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference according to their official website.

The next competition for both squads will be the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference Championships at Denison University in Granville, Ohio on February 21 and 22. The event will take place at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
