The Wayne State University men’s swimming and diving team finished the second day of the 2026 GLIAC Championships in second place out of eight teams. The event is being held at the Holland Community Aquatic Center in Holland, Michigan. At the halfway point of the four-day meet, Wayne State has accumulated 308 points, trailing Grand Valley State, which leads with 411 points after 20 events.
The current standings are as follows: Grand Valley State leads with 411 points, followed by Wayne State (308), Northern Michigan (280), St Cloud State (216.5), Saginaw Valley State (208), Davenport (133), Augustana (124.5), and Lake Superior State (90).
In relay competition, Wayne State’s team of Olin Charnstrom, Gabriel Arias, Paul DeMartini, and Leland Curanovic placed fourth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:15.81.
Olin Charnstrom secured second place in the championship finals of the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:36.99, earning an NCAA B Cut. In the consolation finals for that event, Kadem Goksu Erdagli finished ninth with a time of 1:39.36 and also achieved an NCAA B Cut.
Gabriel Arias took second place in the championship finals of the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:54.24 (NCAA B Cut). Adam Kuc finished sixth in that event at 3:59.28. In the consolation finals for the same event, Alex Duhaime placed thirteenth at 4:01.76 and William Debroux was fourteenth at 4:05.54.
In the consolation finals for the 100 butterfly, Lorenzo Tassinari finished eleventh with a time of 48.36 (NCAA B Cut) while Paul DeMartini came in fourteenth at 49.10.
The conference championships will continue on Sunday with preliminary races starting at 10 a.m., again inside Holland Community Aquatic Center.
