Wayne State men’s swimming advances multiple athletes to GLIAC Championship finals

The Wayne State University men’s swimming and diving team wrapped up the second day of preliminary competition at the GLIAC Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Holland Community Aquatic Center in Holland, Michigan.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Paul DeMartini finished ninth with a time of 48.38 seconds, meeting the NCAA B Cut standard, while Lorenzo Tassinari placed tenth with a time of 48.55 seconds. Both advanced to the consolation finals. Vincent Bruno, Lucas Safta, and Mitchell McMath did not advance in this event.

For the 400-yard individual medley, Gabriel Arias secured second place with a time of 3:56.35 (NCAA B Cut) and Adam Kuc finished sixth at 3:58.86; both will compete in the championship finals. William Debroux and Alex Duhaime advanced to the consolation finals after finishing eleventh and twelfth respectively. Matt Hernandez, Liam Seifert, and Nicholas Slater did not move forward in this event.

In the 200-yard freestyle preliminaries, Olin Charnstrom qualified for the championship finals by placing third with a time of 1:37.55 (NCAA B Cut). Kadem Goksu Erdagli advanced to the consolation finals after an eleventh-place finish (1:39.36; NCAA B Cut). Several other Wayne State swimmers competed but did not advance.

Saturday night’s finals are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., featuring these events along with the 400 medley relay.

Wayne State Warriors Men’s Swimming and Diving competes in both conference and non-conference meets as part of its season schedule according to its official website. The team holds home meets at Matthaei Natatorium and is dedicated to intercollegiate swimming and diving competitions (source).
