The Wayne State University men’s tennis team is scheduled to travel to West Virginia for two matches. The team will play against Fairmont State University on Friday, February 20, and the University of Charleston on Saturday, February 21.
In their most recent competition, Wayne State secured a 6-1 victory over the University of Findlay on February 14. The team won all three doubles matches and all but one singles match, bringing their season record to 2-1.
Fairmont State enters the upcoming match undefeated this season with wins over Tiffin, Virginia Wise, and Ashland. The doubles pair Bartosz Losiak and Guilherme Pachane have a 4-0 record together. Pachane holds a 3-1 mark at No. 1 singles, while Losiak is unbeaten at No. 2 singles with a 4-0 record.
Terry Deremer leads Fairmont State in his eighth season as head coach. “Deremer was tabbed as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II National Coach of the Year after the 2023 spring campaign, in which the Falcons advanced to NCAA Championship Round of 16.”
The University of Charleston holds a 2-1 record this season after losing to UIndy last week. The Golden Eagles are ranked No. 20 nationally by the ITA. Their doubles team of Omar Elsamahy and Vincente Garcia is ranked No.10 in the country.
Charleston’s head coach Alec Foote has been with the program since the 2022-23 season. “In his time, he has guided the Golden Eagles to a 58-14 record and three-consecutive appearances in the NCAA National Tournament.”
Wayne State Warriors Men’s Tennis is part of Wayne State University’s intercollegiate athletics program based in Detroit, Michigan (official website). The team competes in NCAA Division II as a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (official website).
