Wayne State University’s men’s fencing team has announced the addition of three new sabre fencers for the 2025-26 season. The recruits are Connor Desautels from Redding, Connecticut; Gabriel Dumoulin from Newtown, Connecticut; and Gwyd Perry from Bloomfield, Michigan.
Head coach Andy Tulleners commented on the incoming athletes: “I am very pleased with our three incoming men’s sabre fencers. They bring in a solid addition of skill to the team along with a great focus towards accomplishing our season’s goals as we look to build on last year’s successes.”
Connor Desautels is a 2025 graduate of Joel Barlow High School in Redding, Connecticut. He was recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction and achieved several notable results at regional and national competitions, including finishing 36th out of 193 at the July 2025 Summer Nationals in Division II Men’s Sabre and winning the October 2024 Division III Mixed Sabre at The Great Pumpkin event. Desautels fenced for Candlewood Fencing Center/Olympian Fencing Studio and plans to major in Political Science and English.
Gabriel Dumoulin graduated from Newtown High School in 2025. His recent accomplishments include placing third out of 40 at the March 2025 Division II Mixed Sabre tournament in Newton, Connecticut, and first place at the July 2024 Nutmeg State Games Senior Men’s Sabre tournament. Dumoulin competes for Candlewood Fencing Club and intends to double major in Finance and French.
Gwyd Perry is a graduate of Bloomfield Hills High School in Michigan. He trained under coaches Todd Dressel and Michael Ramlow—Ramlow being a former Wayne State University fencing letterwinner—and competed for Renaissance Fencing Club. Perry won first place at the January 2025 IFC Winter Classic Senior Mixed Sabre event in Indiana and placed second at the March 2025 Third Coast Cup Division II Men’s Sabre competition. He plans to study either Psychology or History.
The new additions aim to strengthen Wayne State’s fencing program as it prepares for future competitions.
