The Wayne State University men’s fencing team participated in the first day of the 2025 NCAA Championships, hosted by Penn State University at the Multi-Sport Facility.

In the epee category, Mahmoud Elsayed from Tanta, Gharbia, Egypt, was the sole representative for Wayne State. Elsayed achieved a 4-3 bout record with a +2 touch differential (25-23) after the initial round of pool play. He won five additional bouts to finish the day with a 9-6 record and a +5 touch differential (58-53).

Ethan Leung from Hong Kong competed in foil for Wayne State. The sophomore secured one victory out of seven matches in the first round of pool play, defeating Thomas Craley of Lawrence University 5-1. Leung concluded his day with a 1-14 record.

In sabre, Zeyad Nofal from Cairo represented Wayne State and finished with a 3-4 mark in pool play and a +1 touch differential (27-26). Nofal added three more victories to end the day with an overall record of 6-9 and a -9 touch differential (51-60).

All three fencers will return to compete in eight more bouts on the following day.
