Four members of the Wayne State University men’s golf team have been named 2024-25 Cobalt All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The recipients are Josh DiCarlo, Tyler Hurtubise, Max Leppelmeier, and Ian Smith. In addition to these individual honors, the Warriors were one of 33 Division II programs to receive the GCAA PLATFORM Golf All-Academic Team Award.

The criteria for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination require student-athletes to be at least sophomores academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA, or in their final year with an associate’s degree in NJCAA. Nominees must participate in at least half of their team’s competitive rounds, maintain a stroke average under 78.0 for NCAA Division II, and hold a minimum cumulative career GPA of 3.2. Recipients must also demonstrate high moral character and good standing at their institution.

DiCarlo achieved a master’s GPA of 3.38 in Automotive Supply Chain Management. Hurtubise maintained a 3.49 GPA in Sport Management, Leppelmeier had a 3.41 GPA in Management, and Smith recorded a 3.53 GPA in Marketing. Their season scoring averages were 71.6 for DiCarlo, 73.3 for Hurtubise, 72.2 for Leppelmeier, and 74.2 for Smith. DiCarlo led the team with participation in 32 out of a possible 33 rounds; Hurtubise played in 29 rounds; Leppelmeier also competed in 29; Smith took part in 30.

A total of 207 NCAA Division II athletes from 78 schools earned Cobalt All-America Scholar honors this year. Georgia Southwestern, Lander, and Saint Leo each had five honorees—the most among all schools—while Wayne State was among seventeen other institutions with four recipients.

Wayne State’s men’s golf team met the “All-Academic” standard with a team GPA of 3.096 for the academic year.
