Wayne State University’s men’s golf team concluded a strong showing at the Ken Partridge Invitational, finishing second to Missouri S&T. The event took place on Tuesday in Noblesville, Indiana, and featured the 22nd-ranked Warriors up against the 18th-ranked Miners. Missouri S&T posted an 859 (-5), while Wayne State scored an 866 (+2).

“We had a good battle with Missouri S&T today,” said Wayne State head coach Mike Horn. “It basically came down to the last couple of holes and they got the better of us on 18.”

Standout performance for Wayne State came from Josh DiCarlo, who secured a top-five finish with a score of 212 (-4). Coach Horn expressed satisfaction with the team’s development over the tournament. “I think we learned a lot from the last three days to take into our home event and then into the conference tournament. I think we found out the things we need to work on for the NCAA Tournament. I’m very happy with our progress, just didn’t quite execute well enough in a few facets of the game. Guys are really battling and really getting ready for pressure situations.”

Additional Wayne State golfers included Tyler Hurtubise, who tied for 19th with a score of 218 (+2), and Luc Warnock, who tied for 22nd at 219 (+3). Josh Lahner, competing as an individual, tied for 26th with 220 (+4). Ian Smith and Max Leppelmeier tied for 41st with scores of 222 (+6).

The team standings for the top five included Missouri S&T, Wayne State, Ferris State at 869 (+5), Grand Valley State at 870 (+6), and Indianapolis at 872 (+8).

Wayne State’s next competition will see them host the Motor City Meltdown on April 14 at TPC Michigan in Dearborn, marking the final event of the 2024-25 regular season before moving into the conference tournament.
