The Wayne State University men’s golf team secured a second-place finish at the Findlay Spring Invitational, held in Richmond, Kentucky. The team ended just four strokes behind Missouri S&T, who claimed the top spot. The Miners achieved an impressive 18 under par on the second day to surpass the Warriors, who recorded their best round of nine under par.

Head coach Mike Horn expressed pride in his team’s performance despite challenging weather conditions. “The Warriors battled heavy winds yesterday and cold temperatures today,” he said. He praised individual performances, including Josh Lahner’s effort as an individual competitor and Josh DiCarlo’s tied-for-second finish. Horn acknowledged Missouri S&T’s strong final round, stating, “We overcame the two teams in front of us, but hats off to Missouri S&T for an outstanding -18 in the third round.”

Wayne State’s players had notable performances: Josh DiCarlo tied for second with a score of 208 (-8), Max Leppelmeier tied for seventh at 211 (-5), and Tyler Hurtubise finished tied for 20th with a score of 216 (E). Lahner competed individually and placed 14th with a score of 214 (-2).

The tournament standings saw Missouri S&T leading with a total score of 844 (-20), followed by Wayne State at 848 (-16). Findlay came in third at 850 (-14), Missouri-St. Louis was fourth at 856 (-8), and Saginaw Valley State rounded out the top five with a score of 860 (-4).

Wayne State is set to compete next at the Ashland Invite on March 30-31 at Ashland Golf Club.
