Wayne State University’s men’s tennis team has been selected to participate in the NCAA Tournament as the No. 3 seed in the Midwest Regional Tournament. The tournament will be hosted by Grand Valley State University and the University of Indianapolis.

This marks the 15th selection for Wayne State’s men’s tennis team and the ninth under head coach Bryan Morrow. The team, ranked No. 20 nationally, will face Ferris State University on May 9 in Indianapolis. The winner will compete against either UIndy or Purdue University Northwest on May 10.

Eight teams have earned bids to this year’s Midwest Regional: Grand Valley State, UIndy, Wayne State, Rockhurst, Drury, Ferris State, Purdue Northwest, and Tiffin.

The Warriors hold a record of 15-7 after competing in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament. They reached the championship match but were defeated by GVSU on April 27.

WSU has maintained a national ranking throughout the season according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Cedric Drenth is ranked No. 49 in singles competition, while Drenth and George Day are ranked No. 31 in doubles.

In previous NCAA Championship action, WSU has an all-time record of 18-14. Last year, they advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals after victories over Tiffin, Grand Valley State, and Washburn. This is their fourth consecutive appearance at the NCAA Tournament.

A total of 48 teams received bids to this year’s NCAA Tournament with automatic bids awarded to conference champions. The winners from each regional section will advance to the NCAA Championship Round of 16 scheduled from May 20 to May 24 at Salando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
