The Wayne State University men’s tennis team concluded its season with notable rankings in the final NCAA Division 2 standings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The team achieved a third-place ranking in the Midwest Region and secured the 22nd spot nationally, following a 15-8 overall record and participation in the NCAA Midwest Regional.

In singles play, Cedric Drenth from Sulzbach, Germany, was ranked fifth regionally. His teammate George Day from Southampton, United Kingdom, earned an 11th place regional ranking. Drenth was also recognized nationally as the No. 56 singles player by the ITA.

In doubles competition, Drenth and Day were ranked fourth in the Midwest and 32nd nationally after achieving a 21-7 record together. Additionally, Drenth partnered with freshman Tom Wasner from Altenholz, Germany, to secure a No. 10 regional ranking with a 4-1 record over their last six matches.

Throughout the season, Wayne State faced eight teams that appeared in the final national rankings: Barry (third), Flagler (fourth), UIndy (ninth), Grand Valley State (11th), Embry-Riddle (23rd), Rollins (27th), Ferris State (28th), and Purdue Northwest (29th). The Warriors claimed victories against UIndy, Rollins, and Ferris State.

Wayne State’s overall performance included an 11-4 record within the Midwest Region and a 5-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
