Wayne State University’s men’s tennis team secured a substantial victory against Michigan Tech University with a 6-1 score on Saturday. The match was held on Michigan Tech’s home turf, marking a significant away win for Wayne State, who now boasts a 12-5 overall record this season with 3-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

In the doubles competition, Wayne State swept all three matches. The duo of Cedric Drenth and George Day defeated Vitor Jordao and Landon Coates, while Benjamin Hill and Sam Knowles triumphed over Leon Sell and Ian Pinnoo. In the third match, Tom Wasner and Luis Klaus overcame Sarth Bansode and Laurent Teysseire in a tight 7-6 win.

In singles play, Cedric Drenth continued his successful run with a victory over Vitor Jordao in the No. 1 position. Both George Day and Tom Wasner emerged victorious in their matches, with straight-set wins. Sam Knowles rallied after an initial setback to defeat Landon Coates, and Luis Klaus maintained his unbeaten season record in the No. 6 slot by defeating Ian Pinnoo. The only loss for Wayne State came when Benjamin Hill was outplayed by Laurent Teysseire.

Head Coach Bryan Morrow remarked on the successful weekend, noting the team’s ability to remain focused and achieve their objectives. “Successful weekend, happy to get out of here with two wins against two good GLIAC teams. The match today against Michigan Tech was a good hard-fought win, the guys did a good job of staying focused and getting the job done. We are looking forward to moving on to the rest of the season.”

Wayne State will next face GLIAC newcomer Roosevelt University on April 11.
