Wayne State University is set to conclude its men’s tennis team’s regular season with a match against Ferris State University. The match is scheduled for Friday, April 17, starting at 10:00 AM. Wayne State will hold a ceremony at 9:50 AM to honor its senior player, Cedric Drenth.

Drenth leads the program with 120 doubles wins and is tied for the top spot in singles victories with 104, sharing the record with Niklas Karcz. Remarkably, Drenth is the first Wayne State men’s tennis player to achieve over 100 victories in both singles and doubles play.

In recent matches, Wayne State defeated Roosevelt University 7-0 but subsequently lost 4-3 against Purdue University Northwest. The Roosevelt University win was highlighted by Max Faniel, who secured his first singles victory.

Ferris State enters the upcoming game with four straight victories over Davenport University, Michigan Tech University, Purdue University Northwest, and Roosevelt University. Last season, Ferris State defeated Wayne State twice, both in the regular season and the GLIAC Tournament Championships. The Bulldogs’ head coach, Mark Doren, has led the team to an 87-42 overall record and a 37-4 mark in the GLIAC.

The NCAA has released its initial regional ranking of the season, listing Wayne State among the top 10 teams. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranked Wayne State 23rd nationally, with Drenth holding the 32nd spot in singles and teaming with George Day for the 32nd position in doubles.
