Wayne State University’s men’s swimming and diving team advanced 13 athletes to the finals during Sunday’s preliminary events at the GLIAC Championships in Holland, Michigan.
In the 500-yard freestyle, four Wayne State swimmers qualified for the championship finals. Kadem Goksu Erdagli finished first with a time of 4:27.75, William Debroux placed second at 4:27.98, Khalil Ben Ajmia was third with 4:28.37, and Harrison Arnold took eighth place at 4:32.21. All four met NCAA B Cut standards. Liam Seifert will compete in the consolation finals after finishing 13th.
For the 100-yard backstroke, Olin Charnstrom led qualifiers by placing first with a time of 47.78 (NCAA B Cut). Lorenzo Tassinari tied for fourth at 48.00 (NCAA B Cut), and Gabriel Arias was seventh with a time of 48.73.
Lucas Safta earned a spot in the consolation finals for the 100-yard breaststroke after finishing in 14th place.
In the 200-yard butterfly, Paul DeMartini advanced to the championship finals by placing seventh with a time of 1:50.53, while Matt Hernandez will swim in the consolation finals after his thirteenth-place finish.
On three-meter diving, Max Wasiniak secured first place with a score of 507.25 (NCAA B Cut), and John Martin placed seventh at 467.10 (NCAA B Cut). Both divers move on to tonight’s championship final.
The evening session will begin at 5:30 p.m., featuring individual event finals as well as the men’s team competing in the relay events inside Holland Community Aquatic Center.
Wayne State Warriors Men’s Swimming and Diving participates in both conference and non-conference meets throughout their season according to their official website.
