Wayne State University’s softball team is set to conclude its home stand with a doubleheader against Saginaw Valley State University on March 26. The first game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Gary L Bryce Field. Wayne State, currently holding a 12-15 overall record and 1-3 in the GLIAC, recently faced Davenport and Ferris State in their conference opening weekend.

The Warriors have several players making notable contributions this season. Freshman Morgan Williams ranks 28th nationally in sac bunts per game, leading the GLIAC. Sophomore Logan Forman stands at 41st in sacrifice flies nationally. Sydney Long has made the most appearances in the circle for the GLIAC and is tied for games started. Katelyn DeWitt leads her team in multiple categories including runs scored and batting average, while Elly Koopman has a team-high of 22 RBIs.

Grace Fisher leads Wayne State with five wins this season, boasting a 3.35 ERA with 45 strikeouts over 60.2 innings pitched. Other key pitchers include Sydney Long and Hayden Batton.

Saginaw Valley’s top performers include Lillia Sherman with a .368 batting average and Alana Kimble who holds a .329 average with three triples. Mya Purdy leads her team with 16 RBIs, while Olivia Elliott has hit four home runs this season.

Macy Irelan serves as SVSU’s primary pitcher, maintaining a record of six wins out of nine complete games with an ERA of 1.34.

Following this match-up, Wayne State will play away games against Parkside and Roosevelt if weather conditions allow it.
