Two athletes from Wayne State University’s men’s swimming and diving team contributed to the team’s score and received Second Team All-America honors during the NCAA Championships on Friday evening in Indianapolis.

Freshman Olin Charnstrom, hailing from Oxford, Michigan, finished 11th in the 100 backstroke preliminaries. He improved his position to 10th place in the consolation finals with a time of 47.47 seconds, earning seven points for the team.

Senior Clayton Kinnard from Dexter, Michigan, initially seeded 20th in the 100 breaststroke, advanced to the consolation finals. There he improved his standing by one spot to tie for 13th place with a time of 54.00 seconds, contributing 3.5 points to Wayne State’s total.

As they approach the final day of competition on Saturday, Wayne State stands at 12th place with a total of 85.5 points. Drury University leads with 390 points, followed by Tampa with 355 points, McKendree at 262 points, and Indianapolis with 239 points.

The Warriors are led by head coach Sean Peters, who is in his 28th year. The team aims to secure a top-18 finish at nationals for the 24th consecutive year since their streak began in 2001, excluding the year when championships were not completed in 2020.
