Two members of the Wayne State University men’s tennis team have been awarded Academic All-District honors by the College Sport Communicators for the 2024-25 season. The honorees are senior Cedric Drenth and sophomore Benjamin Hill, both from Germany. These awards recognize student-athletes for their performances both academically and athletically.

Cedric Drenth has been a CSC First Team Academic All-American for two consecutive years, achieving a 3.96 GPA while majoring in Finance. In addition to his academic accomplishments, Drenth was named GLIAC Player of the Year in 2023 and 2025 and earned First Team honors in singles and doubles for two seasons. He holds school records with 106 singles wins and 122 doubles victories, having consistently played first doubles throughout his college career.

During Drenth’s tenure at Wayne State, the tennis team recorded an overall record of 81-34, with a notable performance in GLIAC regular-season matches and NCAA Tournament appearances.

Benjamin Hill is recognized this year in his first year of eligibility. He achieved an 18-8 singles record primarily at No. 4 and No. 5 flights while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.55 as a Sport Management major.

This past spring season saw Wayne State finish with a record of 15-8 overall, securing second place in the GLIAC standings with a 5-2 mark. The team reached the championship match of the GLIAC Tournament but was defeated by Grand Valley State after beating Ferris State in the semifinals. In the NCAA Tournament’s first round, Wayne State narrowly lost to Ferris State with a score of 4-3.
