The Wayne State University men’s tennis team, currently ranked 19th, is scheduled for two final road matches this weekend. The team will face Roosevelt University on April 11 and Purdue University Northwest on April 12 to conclude the regular season.

Against LSSU, the team lost the doubles point but won all but one singles match to secure a 5-2 win. In their match against MTU, Wayne State had a strong showing, sweeping the Huskies in doubles and winning five out of six singles matches for a 6-1 victory.

Roosevelt University, in its first year competing in Division II after moving from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, holds a 0-5 record in the GLIAC this season with an overall 8-12 record. The team is coached by Dominic DeNardo, who has led Roosevelt to an 18-21 record since starting as head coach in the 2023-24 season.

Purdue University Northwest, with a current record of 15-6, is 2-2 in conference play. The team is coached by Selenay Heper and is ranked 37th nationally. In their previous encounter, Wayne State defeated Purdue Northwest 5-2 despite losing in doubles competition.

The latest ITA rankings, released on April 9, place Wayne State at 19th nationally. Players Cedric Drenth and George Day have singles rankings of 35th and 73rd, respectively, while their doubles pairing is ranked 23rd nationally.
