Wayne State University’s men’s tennis team achieved a 5-2 victory against Ferris State University. This victory was notable for Cedric Drenth, who set a new school record for career singles matches won with his 105th victory. Before the match began, Drenth was honored as the lone senior in the team.

The match started strong for Wayne State in doubles, as Drenth and Tom Wasner defeated Kevin Kovacs and Erik Kovacs 6-2. George Day and Sam Knowles also won their match 6-1, and Benjamin Hill and Luis Klaus secured a 6-4 victory to give Wayne State an early lead.

In singles, Drenth staged a notable comeback after trailing 5-1, securing the win and surpassing Niklas Karcz as the holder of the most career singles wins for the university. Wasner and Hill added to the team’s score with victories in their respective matches, while Klaus also emerged victorious. However, Day and Knowles faced defeats in their singles matches.

Additionally, Max Faniel and Cole Anderson participated in exhibition matches, both winning their contests. Wayne State’s head coach, Bryan Morrow, expressed pride in the team’s performance, especially noting Drenth’s achievement. “Congratulations to Cedric (Drenth) for breaking the school’s singles wins record (105 wins),” Morrow stated, referring to Drenth as setting the standard for the team.

Wayne State will proceed to compete in the GLIAC Tournament, starting April 25 at the Midland Tennis Center.
