Sabel Imesch, Ting-Yu Kuo, and Claudia Portillo from Wayne State University’s women’s golf team have been named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team. The announcement was made on Monday morning.

The WGCA’s criteria for selection are rigorous. To qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, be an amateur on the team’s roster through the season’s end, and participate in at least 50% of their college’s competitive rounds during the year up to their conference championship. This year, 1,499 women’s collegiate golfers from 403 programs were recognized.

Imesch holds a GPA of 3.73 in Global Supply Chain Management and has received College Sports Communicators Academic All-District recognition for two consecutive seasons. She was also part of the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for the second year running. Her scoring average for the 2024-25 season was 80 strokes per round over 25 rounds and ten events.

Kuo concluded her first collegiate season with a GPA of 3.96 in Marketing and achieved a scoring average of 76.64—the fifth-best in program history—across 28 rounds and eleven tournaments. Her performance included five top-10 finishes and participation in the NCAA Championship Finals after tying for third at the NCAA East Regional.

Portillo led Wayne State with a GPA of 3.97 in Management and recorded a scoring average of 76.32 over ten tournaments and twenty-five rounds—the lowest mark in program history. She achieved six top-10 finishes, including winning Wayne State’s Warrior Invitational.

The Women’s Golf Coaches Association is a non-profit organization established in 1983 that represents women’s collegiate golf coaches across the U.S., promoting education and intercollegiate competition among women golfers.
