The Wayne State University volleyball program has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for its academic achievements during the 2024 season. The team received the AVCA Team Academic Award, sponsored by INTENT, which acknowledges collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale.

Wayne State’s volleyball team achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.647 in the past academic year. This marks the tenth consecutive year that Wayne State has received this accolade and the twelfth time in thirteen years.

In total, 1,450 collegiate and high school volleyball programs earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the recently completed academic year.

“It is very exciting to see that the record-setting, on-court successes during the 2024-25 season have extended to the classroom,” says AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. “The fact that more programs earned the Team Academic Award than ever before is evidence of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their goals as both students and athletes.”

The AVCA aims to advance volleyball with leadership from coaches who focus on advocacy and professional development. It includes over 9,500 members from various levels of volleyball coaching primarily in the United States.

INTENT sponsors this award for its second year and connects student-athletes with employers through its digital platform, assisting them in achieving success after sports.
