Wayne State women achieve records at recent track and field meets

Members of the Wayne State University women’s track and field team participated in three separate events during their recent California trip. Several athletes achieved noteworthy performances.

At the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational, redshirt sophomore Keneisha Thomas set a new school record in the 400m hurdles. Graduate student Taylor Hopkins achieved the sixth-fastest time in school history for the 1,500m at the La Verne Leopard Invitational. Freshman Megan Zahnow marked the fifth-fastest 100m hurdles time in the school’s records. Additionally, the 4x400m relay team, consisting of Elyse Miller, Avery Wilson, Thomas, and Makenzie Wellner, recorded the second-fastest time in program history, earning an NCAA Provisional mark.

The Azusa Pacific University Bryan Clay Invitational saw various results: Hanne Bastiaansen finished 23rd in the 200m Dash; Avery Wilson placed 41st in the 400m Dash. In the 100m hurdles, Keneisha Thomas ended up 24th, and she set a new school record in the 400m hurdles, finishing 19th. The 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams also participated, recording finishes of 14th and 11th, respectively.

At the University of La Verne Leopard Invitational, the athletes also posted significant performances. Taylor Hopkins and Aubrey Migoski achieved notable times in the 1,500m run, ranking in sixth and tenth positions in school history. In the 100m hurdles, Megan Zahnow secured second place, and she also competed in the 400m hurdles, finishing in seventh. In the field events, Nicole Warren placed sixth in the triple jump, Ania Toboy and Makayla Stewart competed in shot put, and they both participated in the discus throw as well.

Meanwhile, at the Oakland University Elaine Leigh Invitational, Emilee Rudlaff and Paige McArdle competed in the 5,000m run. Annabelle Smith and Ava Steinhebel took part in the long jump, while Idalia Shadhaya competed in the javelin event.

The final day of competition is scheduled for Saturday at the Oakland University Elaine Leigh Invitational.
