The Wayne State University women’s basketball team secured its fifth consecutive win with a 94-73 victory over Roosevelt at the Goodman Center in Chicago on Thursday night. With this result, the Warriors improved their season record to 19-6 overall and 14-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), earning a home game for the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals scheduled for March 4.

Wayne State started strong after an early score from Roosevelt, taking a 5-2 lead following baskets by Taylor Thompson and Karrington Gordon. The Warriors built momentum through the first quarter, closing it ahead at 27-21 after a buzzer-beating layup from Gordon.

Roosevelt narrowed the gap early in the second quarter, briefly leading at 37-36. However, Jaci Tubergen’s layup sparked a decisive 12-0 run for Wayne State to close out the half with a 48-37 advantage.

Thompson extended Wayne State’s run into the third quarter, helping build a lead that reached as high as 21 points. Roosevelt managed to reduce that margin but still trailed heading into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, contributions from Tubergen and Thompson helped maintain control for Wayne State. The team finished with a strong offensive push to secure its win.

The Warriors shot over 50 percent from the field for the seventh time this season, making half of their three-point attempts and holding Roosevelt to under 36 percent shooting overall. Wayne State also outrebounded Roosevelt and led for more than 37 minutes of play.

Gabi Lutchka led all scorers with 28 points and eight rebounds. Taylor Thompson recorded a double-double with 26 points and ten rebounds while adding six assists and three steals. Karrington Gordon contributed twelve points.

For Roosevelt, Isabella Pitta and Isabel Lindo each scored fifteen points; Pitta added eleven rebounds for her own double-double.

Wayne State will next face University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday at De Simone Arena.
