Four members of the Wayne State University women’s fencing team earned top-eight finishes at the 2026 Central Collegiate Fencing Conference (CCFC) Championships, held in Granville, Ohio, on Sunday.
The medalists were Reka Galfalvy from Budapest, Hungary; Salma Abdrabou from Cairo, Egypt; Anabella Acurero Gonzalez from Valencia, Venezuela; and Ludovica Mancini from Rome, Italy.
In the women’s epee event, both Galfalvy and Abdrabou represented Wayne State. Galfalvy recorded an 8-2 record in pool play with a +21 touch differential. Abdrabou finished pools with a 7-2 record and a +12 touch differential. Galfalvy entered the direct elimination stage as the second seed while Abdrabou was seeded fifth.
Both advanced to the finals after Galfalvy defeated Lawrence’s Nora Anderson and Northwestern’s Natasha Lee. Abdrabou secured wins over Reya Farlam of Lawrence University and Karen Wang of Northwestern University. In the final bout between teammates, Galfalvy won 15-10 against Abdrabou to claim first place.

In women’s foil competition, Acurero Gonzalez posted an 8-2 mark in pool play with a +22 touch differential and earned the No. 5 seed in direct elimination. She faced teammate Mancini in the Table of Eight and won 13-10 before falling to Juliana Hung of Northwestern 15-11 in the semifinals to finish tied for third.
Mancini had a strong performance in pools with a 9-1 record (+23 touch differential), earning her the No. 2 seed for direct elimination but lost to Acurero Gonzalez for a fifth-place finish.

Three student-athletes competed individually for Wayne State in women’s sabre: Shirya Bangalore from Frisco, Texas; Regan Byars from Warren, Michigan; and Mehreen Siddiqui from Canton, Michigan. Bangalore finished pool play with one win against Detroit Mercy’s Elizabeth Styf. Byars did not secure any victories but had a close match against Denison’s Natalie Isberg. Siddiqui was unable to win any bouts on Sunday.
