The Wayne State Warriors women’s basketball team is set to conclude its regular season with two home games at the WSU Fieldhouse in Detroit, Michigan. The team will host Lake Superior State on Thursday, February 26, at 5:30 PM and Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, February 28, at 1 PM. The Saturday game will also serve as Senior Day for the program. Having secured a home GLIAC Quarterfinal game on March 4 at 5:30 PM, the Warriors continue their campaign in intercollegiate athletics.

Wayne State has achieved its second consecutive 20-win season under head coach Carrie Lohr, marking the fifth such season during her tenure. Previous coaches had led the program to only two 20-win seasons before Lohr’s arrival. Lohr reached a milestone earlier this year by earning her 400th collegiate head coaching victory during a win over Tiffin.

Against Lake Superior State, Wayne State holds a historical edge of 48-42 and has won the last five matchups. At home, the Warriors have claimed victory in their last sixteen meetings against LSSU. Earlier this season, Wayne State defeated LSSU 74-70 with McKenna Ferguson leading with 20 points.

Saginaw Valley State trails slightly in its all-time series against Wayne State but has lost three straight to the Warriors. In their most recent meeting this season, Wayne State posted a decisive win by outscoring SVSU 77-39.

Lake Superior State enters Thursday’s contest with an overall record of 7-19 and is led by Grace Bradford, who averages nearly a double-double per game. Grace Howrigon serves as head coach for LSSU in her second year.

Saginaw Valley State arrives with a record of 6-20 and is currently coached by Dylan Liddell since midseason. Megan McCalla leads SVSU in scoring.

Wayne State aims to complete an undefeated home schedule for the first time in program history and currently stands at 10-0 at home ahead of Thursday’s game.

Individual milestones are within reach for several players: junior guard McKenna Ferguson recently became the program’s 21st player to reach 1,000 career points; senior forward Taylor Thompson needs seven more points to achieve that mark; graduate student forward Gabi Lutchka is twelve points away from joining them.

The Warriors have enjoyed strong performances throughout the season. Taylor Thompson recorded her eighth double-double during a recent win over Roosevelt College; Gabi Lutchka notched four double-doubles so far; Jaci Tubergen achieved her first career double-double this month.

Statistically, Wayne State leads the GLIAC in field goal percentage (.455), ranking eighth nationally in that category and first in defensive rebounds per game (27.8). According to national rankings, WSU sits tenth according to Massey Ratings and twenty-seventh via WBCA rankings.

Several student-athletes have earned GLIAC Player of the Week honors during this campaign: McKenna Ferguson (three times), Taylor Thompson (three times), and Gabi Lutchka (once).

Head coach Carrie Lohr said she was proud of her team’s accomplishments as they seek further success heading into postseason play.

Wayne State plays its home games in Detroit and has participated in NCAA Tournaments while claiming GLIAC division titles such as those won in the North Division (2012-13) and South Division (2014-15) (official website).

Both upcoming games will be streamed on FloSports (flohoops.com), while audio coverage will be available through The Warrior Sports Network via wsuathletics.com (official website).

“W the Warrior” serves as mascot for Wayne State Warriors Women’s Basketball (official website).
