Wayne State University’s women’s basketball team is set for its final road trip of the 2025-26 regular season, with games scheduled against Roosevelt University on Thursday and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday. The Warriors will wrap up their regular season at home in Detroit, Michigan, facing Lake Superior State and Saginaw Valley State later this month.

In recent matchups, Wayne State has seen mixed results against these upcoming opponents. The team previously defeated Roosevelt 78-50 earlier this season, led by Gabi Lutchka’s 25 points and 10 rebounds. Against Parkside, Wayne State holds a narrow all-time advantage with a record of 12-10 and has won the last three meetings between the teams.

Roosevelt enters the contest with a 7-16 overall record (6-10 GLIAC). Marie Outlay leads Roosevelt in scoring with an average of 12.9 points per game and also tops the squad in steals. Kelly Boyle contributes both offensively and as a playmaker, while Isabella Pitta is noted for her rebounding efforts.

Parkside stands at an even 12-12 (7-9 GLIAC) before its next matchup. Cassidy Arni and Katie Hamill are each averaging 14 points per game for Parkside, contributing on both ends of the court.

This season has included several milestones for Wayne State players. Junior guard McKenna Ferguson recently became just the 21st player in program history to reach 1,000 career points during a win over Michigan Tech. Senior forward Taylor Thompson is approaching that same mark, needing only 35 more points; senior forward Gabi Lutchka is also nearing the milestone.

Head coach Carrie Lohr achieved her own milestone earlier this season by recording her 400th collegiate head coaching victory after Wayne State’s win at Tiffin on December 9. Lohr has coached nine years at St. Clair County Community College prior to her current tenure at Wayne State.

Several Warriors have recorded double-doubles throughout the year: Taylor Thompson logged her seventh such performance in a recent win over Purdue Northwest; Gabi Lutchka notched four double-doubles including back-to-back road games; Jaci Tubergen registered her first career double-double during an overtime victory against Michigan Tech.

Wayne State ranks highly within its conference statistically—leading in field goal percentage (.454), which places them eleventh nationally—and ranks first in defensive rebounds per game within the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). According to national rankings, WSU sits eleventh according to Massey Ratings and twenty-ninth via WBCA polls.

The Warriors’ strength of schedule is among the top two nationally out of nearly three hundred schools evaluated this year.

Recognition from around the league includes seven GLIAC Player of the Week awards distributed among Ferguson (three times), Thompson (three times), and Lutchka (once).

The team continues to see increased production from players like Jaci Tubergen—who moved into a starting role this year—and Emily Homan who has increased playing time as a junior.

Most recently, Wayne State secured its fourth consecutive win by defeating Michigan Tech at home behind strong performances from Ferguson and Lutchka.

Wayne State Warriors Women’s Basketball competes at NCAA Division II level as part of intercollegiate athletics based in Detroit according to their official website. The program features “W the Warrior” as its mascot and has earned multiple NCAA Tournament appearances along with GLIAC division titles such as those claimed in both North Division (2012-13) and South Division (2014-15) as detailed here.

Fans can follow all home contests or road GLIAC games via streaming on FloSports or through free audio broadcasts provided by Kevin Brechmacher on wsuathletics.com.
