The Wayne State University women’s tennis team, currently ranked No. 23, is scheduled to face Saginaw Valley State University on Thursday, February 26 at the Greater Midland Tennis Center. The match will begin at 1:00 PM. On Saturday, February 28, Wayne State will host Hillsdale College at the Doris J. & Donald L. Duchene, Sr. Athletic Facility with play starting at noon.
Wayne State Warriors Women’s Tennis competes in NCAA Division II athletics and is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), according to their official athletics website. The program operates from Detroit, Michigan and participates in intercollegiate competition as part of the university’s sports offerings.
In their most recent outing on February 14, Wayne State lost narrowly to No. 16-ranked Findlay by a score of 4-3. The doubles matches were decisive; Findlay won two out of three doubles contests and both teams split singles matches evenly.
Saginaw Valley State enters its match against Northwood with a record of 2-1 after victories over Hope and Calvin. Nicoletta Diamantopoulos returns for her sophomore season following an 11-8 singles record and a 13-7 doubles mark last year as an Honorable Mention All-GLIAC selection for the 2024-25 season. Emily Ackerman is in her first season coaching Saginaw Valley State after leading Grace College for three seasons.
Hillsdale College holds a current record of 5-2 this season with wins over Michigan Tech, Saginaw Valley State, and Purdue Northwest—three GLIAC opponents. Ane Dannhauser returns as a two-time First Team All-G-MAC selection while Briana Rees was named to the Second Team last season. Melanie Zampardo is also in her first year as head coach after serving as an assistant previously; she was selected to the All-G-MAC Second Team three times during her playing career.
