Wayne State University women’s basketball team has announced the addition of Karrington Gordon, a transfer from Central Michigan University. Head coach Carrie Lohr, entering her 15th season with the Warriors, shared her thoughts on the new recruit.

“We are excited to add a player like Karrington with proven college playing experience,” said Lohr. “She is someone that can play multiple positions. We are hopeful she will add a competitive edge to our squad.”

Gordon, who stands at 6 feet tall and plays both guard and forward positions, is originally from Lincoln Park, Michigan. She played three seasons at Central Michigan, appearing in 74 games and starting 18 times. Over her career with the Chippewas, she scored 486 points and averaged 6.6 points per game while shooting 40 percent from the field. Gordon also made 44 three-pointers and collected 211 rebounds.

During the 2023-24 season, Gordon played in 28 games for Central Michigan and started in 15 of them. She was second on her team in scoring with an average of 9.1 points per game and led in total points with 255. She also ranked second on the team in steals (30), assists (46), and blocks (16). Notable performances included a career-high of 23 points against Buffalo on January 6 and tying her best rebounding mark with 11 against Miami (Ohio) on February 28.

In previous seasons, Gordon contributed consistently as well. In the 2022-23 campaign, she appeared in 25 games and started once, averaging over five points per game and recording double-digit scoring five times. As a freshman during the 2021-22 season, she played in more than half of CMU’s games with two starts.

Before college, Gordon attended Lincoln Park High School where she was a four-year letterwinner for the Railsplitters basketball team. She earned Downriver News-Herald Dream Team honors three times and once scored a school-best of 42 points in a single game against Allen Park. In addition to basketball achievements, she excelled in track and field by setting a school record for high jump at the Downriver League Championships and winning an MHSAA Division I state title.

Gordon is pursuing a master’s degree in Sports Administration at Wayne State University.
