The Wayne State University women’s golf team concluded its participation in Ohio Dominican’s NC4K Classic at the Pinnacle Golf Club in Grove City, Ohio. The team placed sixth out of a field of 16, accumulating a two-round total of 647 strokes (+71, 309-338). Claudia Portillo led the Warriors with a score of 157 (+13, 76-81), resulting in a tie for 12th place individually.
Portillo’s performance marks her sixth top-25 finish in seven tournaments this season. She maintains the lowest scoring average on the team at 75.6 across 17 rounds, with Ting-Yu Kuo following closely with an average of 77.6. The individual scores for the Wayne State team were highlighted by Portillo’s 157, Sophia Wygonik’s 162 (+18, 77-85), Sabel Imesch’s 163 (+19, 80-83), Kuo’s 165 (+21, 76-89), and Orianna Bylsma’s 175 (+31, 86-89).
Ferris State claimed first place in the team standings with a score of 608 (+32, 307-301). They were followed by Grand Valley State with 618 (+42, 304-314), Gannon at 626 (+50, 318-308), Ashland with 635 (+59, 314-321), and Ohio Dominican at 640 (+64, 325-315).
Upcoming for the Wayne State Warriors is their final regular season event of the 2024-25 golf season. The team will compete at Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio, on April 14-15 at Walsh’s Cav Classic.
