DETROIT — The Wayne State University women’s tennis team is set to face Davenport University and Grand Valley State University. The matches will occur on March 28 against Davenport and on March 29 against Grand Valley State. Both events are scheduled to start at 2 PM.

In their latest outing, Wayne State secured a 5-2 triumph over Oakland University. The team clinched two out of three doubles matches and claimed four victories in singles play.

Davenport holds an overall record of 8-7, including a 1-1 record in conference play. They recent secured a 7-0 win against Roosevelt University. Historically, Wayne State has won all seven matchups against the Panthers.

Under coach Patrick Grashorn, Davenport’s women’s team has achieved a 187-168 record. Grashorn also leads the men’s team, boasting a 193-153 record over his tenure.

Grand Valley State, with an 8-3 overall record and a 2-0 conference mark, recently defeated Roosevelt University and Purdue University Northwest. Wayne State has won its last four encounters with Grand Valley State, including securing last year’s GLIAC Tournament Championship.

Grand Valley State’s head coach, Samantha Barr, has led the team to an 86-36 mark. She also manages the men’s team, which has a 67-40 record.

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) ranks Wayne State as the 32nd team in Division II. Wayne State players Martyna Szpakowska, Anais Ruyssen, and Malak Arafat hold individual rankings on the singles side. Pairings including Arafat and Szpakowska, Dea Gorgidze and Ruyssen, Shantala Uzcategui and Ruyssen also feature in the doubles rankings.
