The Wayne State University women’s tennis team has clinched the top spot in the latest NCAA Regional Poll for the Midwest Region, sharing the spotlight with fellow Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) members Grand Valley State and Ferris State. These rankings place Wayne State as a leading contender as the region prepares for the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament.

The Midwest Region covers teams from the GLIAC, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), and the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). A total of seven teams will qualify for the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament, which includes automatic bids for each conference’s tournament winner along with four additional at-large bids. In the broader NCAA Tournament, 48 teams will compete across eight regions.

According to the full regional ranking, Wayne State leads, followed by Grand Valley State, Findlay, Tiffin, Ferris State, Northwood, Rockhurst, UIndy, and Hillsdale.

In recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, Wayne State’s women’s tennis team is ranked No. 27 in the country. Martyna Szpakowska emerges as the sole ranked singles player from the team, positioned at No. 65. In doubles, Szpakowska teams with Malak Arafat to form the No. 19-ranked duo, while Dea Gorgidze and Anais Ruyssen are ranked at No. 23.

Attention now shifts to the upcoming NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Selection Show, set for May 5 at 8:30 PM on NCAA.com. For further updates on scheduling and rankings, Wayne State supporters are encouraged to visit wsuathletics.com.
