Wayne State University’s women’s tennis team delivered a convincing 7-0 victory against Davenport University on Friday. This success enhances their record to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

During the doubles matches, Wayne State won all three contests, securing the doubles point. Anais Ruyssen and Dea Gorgidze competed in the No. 1 doubles position, defeating Sienna Opray and Skye Vandeleur. Malak Arafat and Justine Beaulieu triumphed over Amy Bloch and Lotte Federski in the No. 2 slot, while Shanice Weekes and Shantala Uzcategui outplayed Erin Hack and Kumiko Yamaguchi in the No. 3 position.

In singles action, Ruyssen had a tightly contested match against Opray in the No. 1 position. After exchanging set wins, Ruyssen emerged victorious in the tiebreaker. Arafat overcame a first-set loss to win her match against Bloch. Gorgidze and Weekes won their matches in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, each securing straight-set victories.

Beaulieu and Uzcategui completed the sweep in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, with Beaulieu defeating Hack and Uzcategui winning against Valentina Moreno without dropping a game.

The Wayne State team will next face the No. 28-ranked Grand Valley State University on March 29. The match will begin at 2:00 PM.
