Wayne State University’s women’s tennis team, ranked No. 23, is set to conclude its regular season with two away matches against Roosevelt University and Purdue University Northwest. Matches will take place on April 11 and April 12, respectively.

The Warriors have a strong conference track record, recently securing wins over Lake Superior State University and Michigan Tech University, which has enhanced their GLIAC record to 5-0. Their match against LSSU saw the team capture the doubles point and secure victory in four out of six singles matches, resulting in a 5-2 win. Against Michigan Tech, Wayne State came away with a 6-1 victory.

Roosevelt University, led by second-year head coach Dominic DeNardo, currently holds a 6-11 record for the season, with a 0-5 result when facing fellow GLIAC teams. Saturday’s match will be the first official meeting between these two schools, with Roosevelt having recently moved from the NAIA to the GLIAC.

Purdue University Northwest has a 5-13 overall record this season and is 2-3 in the conference. Wayne State’s history with PNW includes the last eight matches resulting in victories, with last season’s match ending 7-0 in their favor. The Pride is under the guidance of head coach Selenay Heper, who has led the team to a 12-29 record in her career.

The latest poll from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), as of April 9, places Wayne State as the 23rd-ranked team nationally. Martyna Szpakowska stands out individually, ranked 58th in singles. In doubles, Malak Arafat and Szpakowska rank 15th, while the pair of Dea Gorgidze and Anais Ruyssen rank 26th.
