Mike Horn, the head coach of Wayne State University’s men’s golf team, has been named the GLIAC Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career. This accolade comes after leading the Warriors to their first GLIAC Championship since 2003, marking only the second such victory in the program’s history.

Horn joins Ron English from Ferris State as one of only two coaches to receive this honor five times. The award places them among a select group of just five coaches who have earned it at least four times. The other coaches include Gary Bissell and Don Underwood from Grand Valley State, along with Bob Becker from Saginaw Valley State.

During the past season, Horn guided Wayne State to its 17th NCAA Tournament appearance in 21 seasons, excluding the COVID-affected 2019-20 season. The team won eight individual tournament titles out of 11 events and consistently finished among the top five throughout the regular season. Additionally, two players were named to each of the three All-GLIAC teams.

The six honorees included Josh DiCarlo and Max Leppelmeier on the First Team; Tyler Hurtubise and Luc Warnock on the Second Team; and Ian Smith and Andrew Daily received Honorable Mentions. DiCarlo and Leppelmeier also earned GCAA PING All-Region accolades.

As Horn approaches his 25th season in 2025-26, he will look to returning players such as Andrew Daily, Josh Lahner, Shawn Sehra, Troy Chapman, and Jack Julian to continue building on this success.
