City of Westland issued the following announcement on Oct 15.

There will be maintenance work performed by the Great Lakes Water Authority on a water main that affects the area around Merriman Rd between Michigan Ave and Annapolis from Oct. 18th through Nov. 19th.  During this time, Merriman Rd will be closed to southbound traffic from Michigan Avenue to Annapolis.  A portion of the northbound right lane and curb within this section of road will be excavated. Northbound traffic will be shifted to the left lane for the duration of the road work. Detour signs will be posted to route traffic accordingly.

During this period, the Great Lakes Water Authority is planning to shut down the City of Westland water meter WL-12 to make a connection into the water distribution system at Merriman Road and Barry Street for the 24-inch water transmission main project, which will ultimately improve service reliability and redundancy to the area.  Westland residents could notice reduced water pressure and/or discoloration of the water until the water service is restored on Nov. 12th.  Residents who experience water discoloration, should run the cold water from the lowest point in their houses until it is cleared.

Please email  Westland's Department of Public Service or call 734-728-1770 if you have any questions or concerns.
