"I know that there are few words that I can say to give you comfort. Our hearts break for you, it breaks for our department, it breaks for the second precinct," Chief White said during the funeral of slain Officer Loren Courts.
"This is a [speech] that I pray every night that I never have to give. But I know that at times like this we feel that it's hopeless, that it's nothing that will ever change. But it's our faith that we have to rely on in these moments, and I pray for all of you that you rely on your faith so that we can persevere."
On Monday, Ofc. Loren Courts, who was killed in the line of duty on July 6, was laid to rest. Thank you to our brothers and sisters in law enforcement from across the country and internationally who came to pay their respects. Thank you to state and federal officials who also attended.
To the Courts family -- this department, this city, and the nation will continue to wrap our arms around you.
