Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump received the endorsement of Dearborn Heights Mayor Bill Bazzi during a rally in Novi, Michigan, on Saturday.

Bazzi, a Marine Corps veteran, was part of a group of Muslim leaders who attended the rally in the battleground state to give Trump their official support. During a speech, he expressed concerns about the current state of the nation.

“I have never seen the devastation that we're seeing right now,” Bazzi said. “When President Trump was president, it was peace. We didn't have any issues. There were no wars. He didn't create wars. He was actually trying to withdraw our troops from overseas.”

Bazzi addressed local issues, recalling the flooding in Dearborn Heights in 2022. He indicated frustration when he sought National Guard assistance for the city.

“I was told, we can help you, but there's a price tag to bring the National Guard to help Dearborn Heights,” Bazzi said. “That's pretty sad. We're spending billions of dollars overseas, but yet we can't take care of our infrastructure here in the United States.”

Bazzi expressed a desire for a renewed respect for the country on the global stage, anticipating that Trump would bring these changes as the next president. He went on to affirm his support for Trump's vision, emphasizing the importance of ending conflicts and restoring safety in the United States.

"We're going to stop the wars," Bazzi said.

Bill Bazzi was elected as Dearborn Heights' first Arab American mayor in 2021. Before serving as mayor, Bazzi was a member of the Dearborn Heights City Council. He has over two decades of experience in business, including roles in project management and logistics with Boeing, where he worked after retiring from the U.S. Marine Corps. Bazzi served 21 years in the Marine Corps, holding various leadership and operational roles. He is a longtime resident of Dearborn Heights, where he lives with his family.
