The Livonia Public Schools Board of Education recognized a girl’s swimmer for her accolades at a recent meeting for her accomplishments in the pool.

For the third year in a row, the board recognized swimmer McKenzie Siroky. Siroky, a senior at Stevenson High School, was recognized by the board for winning a state championship title in the 100-yard breaststroke. This is her third time doing so, and she broke the state record, which was her own, to achieve it.

“Over the years, we've watched McKenzie develop as a premier athlete, not only in the pool, but also on the ice as a player on the Stevenson High School hockey team. She's a rare and special athlete who is also representative in so many ways of the character and maturity we love to see in our students,” said Administrator of District Communications Stacy Jenkins. “We know that earning a state championship title in any sport is a huge accomplishment. Our student athletes juggle schoolwork with countless hours of practices and competitions and somehow still make the time to live their best lives with their peers and their families. Mackenzie has struck this balance for years and has accomplished so much.”

Board Vice President Mark Johnson read a special resolution on behalf of recognizing McKenzie and all her accomplishments. It included her record breaking win this year with a time of 1:00.26, new school records in the 200-medley relay, 200-yard free relay, 50-yard freestyle and a new pool record in the 50-yard freestyle. She was also designated as an All-American swimmer in the 100 meter breaststroke and the 200-medley relay. She was all state in many other events as well.

Girls swim coach Greg Phill, Stevenson Principal Pete Mazzoni and other members of the girls swim team were also in attendance. Besides McKenzie, there were three girls named as All American Swimmers: Kaari Peecher, Faith Robertson and Allie Allen. These were the members of the 200-medley relay. This means their times were in the top 100 times for the event throughout the whole country. Coach Phill was also named coach of the year by the Michigan Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association.
