The Wayne State University women's cross country team has started the year with consecutive first-place finishes, winning the Warrior Challenge at Willow Metropark on Friday. The team scored a total of 40 points, with three athletes finishing among the top 10.

Reagan Justice from Canton, Mich., secured her second consecutive race victory with a time of 21:41.90. Emily Gordon from Northville, Mich., finished seventh at 22:57.60, followed closely by Taylor Hopkins from Sanford, Mich., who placed eighth with a time of 23:05.10.

Other notable finishers for Wayne State included Robin Bresolin (13th place), Anna Gdowski (15th place), Annalee Misch (17th place), Aubrey Migoski (21st place), Mattie Drennan (22nd place), Emilee Rudlaff (28th place), Sarah Greb (39th place), Layla Martini (74th place), Meagan Verellen (75th place), Annalise Elliott (87th place), and Natalie Davies (91st place).

Head Coach Grant Lofdahl commented on the team's performance: "We talk a lot about consistency and being the kind of runners whose worst day is still pretty good, and I think the women put that into practice today. Reagan looked incredibly strong out there, winning by nearly a minute, and Emily showed that she is at a new level as a cross country runner this fall. Our number two-through-eight runners finished within a minute of each other, under 24 minutes in some challenging conditions, and that shows a lot of depth for this squad."

The Warriors will next compete on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Live in Lou Classic held at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.
