Wayne State University head cross country coach Grant Lofdahl has announced the addition of two new signees, Tyler Brothers and Ian Lewis, to complete his six-member signing class. The incoming athletes will join the Warriors next month.
Tyler Brothers hails from Shelby Township, Michigan, and is a recent graduate of Eisenhower High School. He was a four-year cross country letterwinner and played a significant role in helping his team achieve a second-place finish at the county meet in 2021. Brothers qualified for the MHSAA Division 1 state cross country meet during his last two seasons and earned All-Macomb County recognition twice. His personal best time is 15:46.8 at the 2023 Michigan Meet of Champions.
Coach Lofdahl expressed optimism about Brothers' potential contributions to the team: "We've had a long history of successful Warrior runners from Eisenhower High, and Tyler is following that tradition, which includes his older brother Brennan. He is someone who can grind and wants to put in lots of work, and he's made big improvements in the past year. We think that he'll be able to continue that trend at Wayne State, and can be a major contributor down the road."
Ian Lewis joins from Livonia Churchill High School where he earned eight letters across multiple sports including track, cross country, and swimming. He competed at the MHSAA Division 1 state cross country meet for three consecutive seasons, finishing 28th as a senior to earn All-State accolades. Lewis set several personal bests during his high school career, including running 15:38.9 for 5,000m at the 2023 Shepherd Bluejay Invite.
Lofdahl spoke highly of Lewis' preparedness for collegiate competition: "Ian is a runner we knew would make a good Warrior last fall, and he did his homework before deciding on WSU. He was well coached at Churchill, and he knows how to train and compete at a high level. We think he will adapt really well to college racing and especially to the longer race distances."
The additions of Brothers and Lewis follow earlier signings of Sam Martini (Casnovia), Ethan Muraszewski (Shelby Township), Sean Pettis (Fremont), and Andrew Yax (Clio). These new recruits are expected to bolster Wayne State's lineup for the upcoming season.
