The Wayne State University men's golf team secured its first victory of the 2023-24 season by winning the Davis & Elkins' Battle at Brunswick. Due to weather conditions, no play occurred on Saturday, making Friday's 27 holes the final result. The Warriors topped the 10-team field with a score of 431 (-1), with Mat Hawryluk earning medalist honors for the second time in his career, scoring 106 (-2).

"Congratulations to the Warriors on a well-earned victory," stated head coach Mike Horn. "We actually played very well this morning for six or seven holes before we got rained out. We were widening our lead as we battled through high winds and torrential rains. I think as a team, we were under when the tournament got called on the seventh hole. Congratulations to Mat on the victory and Ian on his runner-up finish! We will look to build on this victory as we get ready for the SVSU Spring Invitational next weekend. Also, Mat has now joined a pretty elite group with two victories as a Warrior."

In individual performances among 60 competitors, Mat Hawryluk led with -2, followed closely by Ian Smith tied in second place at -1. Josh DiCarlo and Max Leppelmeier both tied for fourth place with +1 scores.

The team standings concluded with Wayne State leading at -1, followed by Emory & Henry at +19 and North Greenville at +26.
