The Wayne State University men's golf team wrapped up its 2023-24 season at the NCAA Midwest/Central Super Regional, held at KickingBird Golf Club in Edmond, Oklahoma. The team secured a 16th place finish among 20 competing teams. Mat Hawryluk led the Warriors with a tie for 28th place out of 104 golfers.

Reflecting on the season, head coach Mike Horn stated, "We had a disappointing finish at super regionals, but we had an outstanding year overall. I think we've got a lot to build on for next year as everybody is returning and we certainly should be able to improve on our regular season, our conference championship outing and our NCAA performance." Horn highlighted individual performances over the tournament: "We had some highlights over the last three days with Ian shooting a 67 the first day, Mat and Max both playing well yesterday and Mat playing well again today. This is a great group of young men and I hope we can achieve the goals that we certainly should be able to accomplish with a little targeted work."

The top five teams advancing to the NCAA Championships are Central Oklahoma, Henderson State, Harding, Grand Valley State, and Ferris State. Individual qualifiers include Elliot Han Monteremal from Rogers State and Jack Hope from Central Missouri.

In terms of individual results for Wayne State University players: Mat Hawryluk tied for 28th with scores of 74-68-68; Ian Smith tied for 74th with scores of 67-77-74; Max Leppelmeier also tied for 74th with scores of 75-68-75; Josh DiCarlo finished tied for 80th with scores of 73-75-71; Josh Lahner played only in the third round scoring +4 (74), while Adam Burghardt participated in rounds two and three.

Coach Horn will now focus on preparations during the offseason before starting his 23rd season as head coach in the fall.
